Many justice issues throughout the world have a lot to do with access–access to food, water, healthcare, education, income. On a local level, many of you who live in Kansas City are acutely aware of our own lack of access to education for our elementary, middle and high school children. But, that is about to change for those in JW’s surrounding midtown neighborhoods, thanks to a small team of midtown parents who got together, made a plan, and made it happen.
The Midtown KC Community School Initiative went from a few friends with small children talking about what they will do when their kids reach school age to writing a Request for Proposal and ultimately inviting a national organization to begin planning for a public charter school in midtown!
This story reminds us that problems, even those that seem so deeply rooted or disorganized, can be solved. What a phenomenal example of the power of people and community.
